1) Proof-reading


Spelling: There was a number of spelling errors throughout my proposal but thanks to proof reading I was able to spot these errors and correct them immediately. For example in my text I spelled 'primarily' wrong as shown bellow. Thanks to proof reading I was able to notice my mistake and I improved it. This saved me from a loss of marks as spelling really affects grades.

Punctuation: There was a number of punctuation errors throughout my proposal but thanks to proof reading I was able to spot them and change them into something better. For example, as shown below I had forgot to add a full stop at the end of the sentence this could of led to a decrease in my marks as this is a bad error but I was able to improve it. 

Grammar: There was a number of grammatical errors throughout my proposal but thanks to proof reading I was able to to spot the issue and change it. For example I wrote "don't" on one of my Power Point slide but I realized that it looked unprofessional and lazy so i changed  to "do not" to look more formal and smart.

This has developed my research because i understand now where i have gone wrong. This is effective because i am able to go back on my previous work and improve it. This has impacted my work because during this task i was able to look back at my work and understand where i went wrong and i am able to improve it to make it better. This task has also influnced me to chech carefully where there might be any mistakes. This is effective because i make less mistakes which means i can soend more time improving my work rather than correcting it.

linguistic register example

     Linguistic register is the type or the way you present your speech or presentation. This is important because without it then every thing you say or do would look unprofessional. For example look at the piece of text below it is riddled with mistakes. This is important for my task 

     

     The bad version
     I get asked all the time what is the aim of my short film and i say that it's to make people realise that emotional abuse is mean. in my opinion this type is the worst because there basically getting bullied.

     

     There are many things wrong with this short paragraph, for example it is to conversational and it is also really boring. This is effective because the audience will not take me seriously and they would not be interested in my type of abuse. there is also a spelling mistake realize is spelled like this and in the text it is spelled 'realise'.

     In life I believe that psychological abuse to women should be publicised more to the public to make them more aware. In my opinion emotional abuse is the worst type of abuse because it attacks women not physically but emotionally.   


     By using linguistic register i was able to turn my bad paragraph into a appealing paragraph. For example the paragraph above is more formal  This one is better because it is more formal and has better punctuation.

For example one of the tips was tell real stories, this is effective because it will draw in the audience attention and make you more entertaining. The advantages of these tips was that i know now how to make a great presentation. On the other hand the disadvantage is some of them was to worded to understand.

What makes a good PowerPoint

The bad things in a PowerPoint presentation:
-i couldn't see the text clearly
-the same thing over and over
-Looks incomplete with the blank spaces
-I cant see the screen. Focus, text and lighting.
-The presenter doesn't know his own material. He has not learnt it off by heart and does not rehearse. The presenter is monotone and has no confidence.
-Volume of the information is to much.
-On topic/off topic.

Good things in a PowerPoint presentation:
-Ideas are powerful.
-Turn the presentation into a story which makes it more appealing for the audience.
-The presenter is more of the mentor than the audience because they are helping the audience understand the presentation.
-Always look to the future to keep the audience entertained.
-Go back and fourth from whats normally expected and the future.
-Always have a structure to your PowerPoint (beginning, middle and end).
-Make sure you are not talking the whole time as this bores the audience.
-You know you have a good presentation if you receive laughing and clapping the whole time.
-Most important make sure that you are enthusiastic.
-Make sure you finish with a quote as this will make it memorable.
-Repeat key words so that this stands out to them and use metaphors.
-Relate with the audience so they will appreciate you.

The thing i can do to make a memorable presentation is emotionally abuse the audience as this would stand out as they would know what it is like to get emotionally abused.

There was many reading techniques I have used throughout this unit. For example skim reading, skim reading is quickly looking over a piece of text while picking up key parts of the text. This is useful when you are on a train journey and you want to quickly glance over a newspaper. Another example was scan reading, this is when you are looking over a extract and you are looking for specific key word or phrase. This is useful when you are reading an extract and you want to look over specific text with a keyword. My final example is a phrase search, this is when you type a specific phrase into Google and it comes up with a extract with that specific phrase. This is useful when you want to find a book and a chapter that has a specific term you want to read.

There are many types of information extract techniques I have used for example highlighting. Highlighting is when you notice a key word or phrase and instead of reading all over again you highlight it to make it stand out next time you read it. This is useful when you want to pick out terms from a specific extract to present to someone. I used highlighting when i was annotating emotional abuse articles. A second example is summarising, this is when you read a long piece of text and you shorten it to it key points so that it is shorter for the reader. This is useful when your friend wants to read an article but it is too long so you summarise it so that it is more bearable to read. I used this when i summarised an article about Jeremy Coybern. My final example is coping and pasting extracts, this is when you copy and paste an extract from the internet because it contains valuable information. This is useful when you need evidence to back up a specific point. I used it when I needed an article for my annotating task.

This index was useful because it directed me to the right page with key information on it. I could use this is my short film because then i can add statistics in the film to affect the reader.

the most practical thing I've got to think off is budgeting and how to use my money wisely. When I was researching I noticed that all the books were saying the same thing I would need at least £20,000 in order to make an good production movie. I was thinking of things I need to buy for my short film and the list piles on I would need cameras, actors, lighting, etc

. Don't worry about how quickly you are reading but instead, concentrate on reading the line in only three fixations.

.As this becomes more natural, practise without drawing lines.

.Later, reduce the number of fixations to two per line.

.Have a clear focus for your reading. Set your reading goals

This is useful because it shows you effective techniques for effecting reading in concentration and it describes how to read quickly as well. The advantage of reading with concentration is that you can clearly understand a piece of text; this is effective because it shows how well I understand my chosen subject which is emotional abuse. The disadvantage of this is that it takes up valuable time; this is effective because I will read a lot of texts in a short amount of time.  This will help my project because I will be able to read effectively when looking over a piece text about emotional abuse.

Annotation Evaluation

Highlighting is useful when you want to remember a key phrase or word in a piece of text. This is useful because when you look back on a piece of text instead of reading the whole thing again you can read only the bit you highlighted. The advantage of highlighting is that you can easily see a key phrase. The disadvantage is that it takes time highlighting because you need to carefully read it. I used highlighting in my task to pick up key quotes and to help them stand out to the reader. This is useful for my project because I can use highlighting when I need to read a useful text about emotional abuse.

Underling is useful when you want make a phrase or word stand out from a text. This is effective because when you are looking over the text in a later date it is easier to read the key words when they are underlined. The advantage of underlining is that it is quicker than highlighting because it is easier to underline rather than highlight. The disadvantage is that highlighting is much more noticeable than underlining. I used this in my task when I was skimming through the text. This is useful for my project because I refer back on texts and the key points are underlined

Labelling is useful when you want to add to highlighting to help explain what it is you have highlighted. This is effective because it makes highlighting more effective when you add notes to it. The advantage of labelling is that you can add notes to a piece of text to make it much clearer. The disadvantage of labelling is that it takes time to label. I used labelling in my task when I was adding notes to stuff I highlighted. This is useful for my project because I can label notes to make them much clearer and therefore has a better effect on the reader.

My task for this lesson was to locate a journal on the web about my area of abuse.  I first started by searching on Google for a journal about emotional abuse after a long time i found an journal that suited me perfectly. This stage of the task was useful because it shows how good i am at searching for a certain item i need. The second stage of the task was skim reading the journal to find what is relevant to me. In this journal was stories about how women are abuse and the effects it leaves behind. This is useful for my video because i can refer this and tell my viewers the effects of emotional abuse.

Legal and Ethical constraints

When creating a short video there are many laws you need to abide by. It is crucial to understand these laws other wise I could get into trouble with the law. These laws were created to keep the public safe and sound. These are just some of the examples there are.

Product Placement- This is when a program is sponsored by a certain product and you see it advertised everywhere throughout the program. This is important because i would not want to offend anyone by linking a certain product with psychological abuse.

Watershed- I have to make sure my short film is age appropriate or my film will have to be shown after nine o'clock. This is important because it will be less viewed after nine o'clock.

In conclusion i will have to make sure my film follows these laws for it to stay on TV.

Jeremy Corbyn was heavily criticized for not singing good save the queen. He was branded disloyal for refusing to sing. Labour and Tory mps said he was dishounourable. Corbyns response was he stood in respectful silence. He also wore a miss matched suit and his top bottom was undone. His fellow Mp warned that he will step down if Corbyn left the European union. 100 labour mps are preparing to publicly campaign for the uk to stay in the European union. He also forgot to deliver a number of lines in his speech. In conclusion, he was forced to issue a statement after hours of criticism. This helped me with summarising with my project.

The reason we summarise is to sum up a huge piece of text into a couple of sentences for people to read quickly. Summarising is useful when you are in a hurry and you need to read a long piece of text and you summarise it to read faster. The advantages of summarising is it can shorten long text for you to understand. this is good because it will save time. The disadvantages of summarising is that you have to understand the text really well in order to summarise it, this is bad because it will take a long time to understand it

In this task we were asked to copy and paste key words into Google. This was a useful task because it helped me to look for key areas of my area of abuse faster and easier it was also clearer and faster in finding the text. I searched psychological abuse on women into Google and came up with these searches. this was effective because it helped me understand the effects of abuse on women

The area of abuse i decided to cover is psychological abuse, this was a tuff choice as there was many types of abuse i could of chosen but i decided to go with this one as it is not reported as much as other areas of abuse. Psychological abuse can lead to many mental issues even death, this is also another reason why i chose this issue. I would like my short film to be viewed nationally on the BBC as their target audience is 25-55 years old this is a really good target audience as this is the time of your life when your with a partner. I would also like to choose BBC as their ethos is inform, educate and entertain. My video would like to inform and educate my viewers.

Existing charities

There are a wide range of charaties that help with psychological abuse, for example Womensaid. Womensaid is a charity created to help women against any types of abuse. In this short video it shows a normal women at home with her boyfriend and it soon developed into name calling and emotional abuse. Then it showed a friend showing her women aid and their details and in the end she called them to get advice. My short video will be unique compared to this short film as most psychological abuse stories don't end so happily, this is effective because the general public will more likely remember a non text book ending.

Skimming Vs. Scanning

My task for this lesson was to search the internet for websites on my chosen area of abuse which is psychological abuse to women. I was told after i have found the website i would like to use, i was then given permission to copy and paste from the website.

Most domestic violence includes emotional abuse, which can include such tactics such as:

destructive criticism, name calling, sulking

pressure tactics

lying to you, or to your friends and family about you

persistently putting you down in front of other people

never listening or responding when you talk

isolating you from friends and family, monitoring your phone calls, emails, texts and letters

checking up on you, following you, not letting you go out alone.

The impact of emotional abuse may be even more devastating than physical assault - and have much longer term effects - yet most of the above behaviours are not crimes, and it's therefore much more difficult to obtain protection, or even to get others to take them seriously.

The difference between skimming and scanning is that skimming is looking over a piece of text in speed while taking in particular words. Scanning is looking over the text and reading specific parts when we notice a key word.

3) Read headings and sub-headings.
4) Notice pictures, graphs and charts.
